Did you know that in 1979 Frank Sinatra recorded a concept alum about the future with a giant orchestra? Well he did, and it’s exactly as crazy as you think it is. In the opening number, Frank takes a tour of the solar system during which he declares “Uranus is heaven”, followed by a chorus chanting “Uranus! Uranus!”.
I am not making this up.
It was the third disc of a triple album that include a disc of old standards and a disc of Sinatra’s take rock songs by Elvis, The Beatles, and Billy Joel. Far from being a self-indulgent flop, it sold well and was nominated for several Grammys.
Still not making it up.
The concept album ends with a 50 person chorus shouting “Sinatra! Sinatra! Sinatra!”. I guess it really is Frank’s world, and we really do just live in it.
